The Chatham Green Project is located just off the A131 linking the major towns of Braintree and Chelmsford. From the main road follow the signs for Whitbreads Business Centre, entering the village along Whitbreads Farm Lane. Visitor Parking is located on the left hand side of the road, adjacent to the big green barn marked “Hyde Hall Whitbreads”. We can accommodate a number of small vehicles on site and have space available for up to two coaches per visit.
Our purpose-built education centre provides a base for your visit. It includes bathroom facilities, space to store lunches and coats, a kitchenette, and a first aid area. The classroom is bright and inviting, with many windows overlooking our beautiful site. The entire building is accessible to people with disabilities.
Immediately outside the education centre is a beautiful wildflower meadow perfect for picnics or fun activities.
Chatham Green’s living classroom boasts the following outdoor features, each uniquely suited to curriculum-based environmental education:
Safari Tent and Fire Pit
Another learning space is our outdoor tented classroom. The safari tent has a wood-burning stove, which makes it especially inviting in autumn and winter.
Children are safe at the Chatham Green Project. The site is set well back from the small road. Most of the activity area is contained within deer fences. Well-maintained footpaths and gates keep children from straying.
Most of the site is accessible to the disabled, though some routes become muddy at times. Advise us in advance of your student’s special physical or educational needs, and we will plan your session accordingly.
